21 Forgotten Sanskrit Tales Translated & Retold by

U. Mahesh Prabhu | Foreword: Dr David Frawley

Ancient Vedic India was a land where knowledge and wisdom were revered as the greatest wealth. There intellectual Brahmins, sagely Rishis, and equipoised Munis were honored for their incomparable knowledge. At a time when writing was not well developed, Smriti or memory was the main medium by which knowledge was recorded before transmitting it through Vak or the spoken word from a preceptor Guru to his disciples Shishyas. Mantras or hymns composed in ancient Sanskrit were used to remember complex knowledge along with Katha or thought-provoking tales. These tales besides being entertaining were also enlightening and promoted deeper Vichara or contemplation. In this first volume of Rishis Tales, U. Mahesh Prabhu presents 21 such stories translated from the ancient Sanskrit. Tales that continue to inspire millions of people towards the true understanding of Self, wisdom, peace, and prosperity.

Ramana Maharshi's Essence of Self Realization

Dr David Frawley

Bhagavan Ramana Maharashi (1878 -1950) was probably the most honored Self –realized guru and spiritual of modern India. He taught the Yoga of Knowledge (Jnana Yoga) and the Vedantic path of Advaita or Non –duality, leading us to our true nature as pure consciousness beyond body and mind, death and sorrow. Though Ramana never left the sacred mountain of Arunachala in Tiruvannamalai, South India where he resided, numerous people came from throughout the world to seek his guidance, which he usually gave through silence or through short replies to their questions. Upadesha Saram, which means the “Essence of Instruction”, is the often regarded as his most important written work –an axiomatic text of a mere thirty verses. It summarizes his teachings on the Essence of Self –realization, guiding the disciple along the path to the highest awareness in a systematic manner, pointing out a variety of practices. The current translation and interpretation by Acharya Vamadeva Shastri David Frawley, one of the most highly regarded Vedic teachers in the world today, explains each verses clearly and succiently to reveal the depth of Ramana’s insight for everyone to learn and benefit from.
